Full-Stack Software Engineer
An early engineering hire working directly with our CTO on the core product. Full-stack, TypeScript-first, and serious about type safety and correctness in long-running systems.
Docflow builds AI agents that run the back office for healthcare providers. Our automation handles the work that buries their teams: document intake, prior authorizations, order entry, and payer portal workflows. Customers start with a paid pilot, see real work getting done within weeks, and expand from there.
We’re a small, scrappy, AI-native founding team, and we’re growing fast. We ship a lot of real software fast, and we hold a high bar for how it’s built. That’s why we’re hiring you.
The Role
You’ll be an early engineer working directly with our CTO on the core product: the systems that ingest documents, orchestrate long-running automated workflows, drive browser automation across dozens of external portals, and present it all in a fast, modern web app. This is a true full-stack role. You’ll move fluidly from the database to the backend and workflow engine to the UI.
We care as much about how you build as what you build. We write TypeScript with rigorous type safety, model our domain with precise types instead of loose ones, and treat correctness in asynchronous, long-running systems as a first-class concern. If you take pride in code that is clean, well-typed, and hard to misuse, you’ll fit right in.
Because we handle protected health information, reliability and care are not optional. You’ll help us build software that is fast for users and trustworthy with sensitive data.
What You’ll Do
- Ship features across the full stack, from database schema to backend logic to user interface
- Build and maintain long-running, asynchronous workflows that must be reliable, idempotent, and resumable
- Work on browser automation that interacts with many external systems
- Design clean, precise domain models and APIs that are hard to misuse
- Care for a production system that handles sensitive healthcare data with the reliability that demands
- Work closely with the CTO to set the engineering standards the team grows into
What We’re Looking For
Must have:
- Strong professional experience building and shipping production web applications end to end. We care more about the systems you’ve built than a years-of-experience number, though in practice this usually means several years in the field.
- Deep TypeScript proficiency. This is a must. You reach for precise, discriminated types and exhaustive handling rather than escape hatches like
anyor unsafe casts, and you use the type system to make invalid states unrepresentable. - A strong instinct for correctness in asynchronous and concurrent systems. Race conditions, retries, idempotency, cancellation, and failure handling are things you think about by default, not after a bug.
- Comfort across the whole stack: relational databases and type-safe data access, backend services, and modern component-based UI.
- Care for user-facing quality: responsive, asynchronous interfaces with thoughtful loading, error, and optimistic states.
- Familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure, and with serverless and managed infrastructure.
- High standards for readable, maintainable code and a low tolerance for needless complexity.
Preferred:
- Experience with durable workflow orchestration or long-running job systems
- Experience with browser automation or end-to-end testing frameworks
- Experience in regulated or security-sensitive domains such as healthcare or fintech, and handling sensitive data
- Experience shipping in a monorepo and in a fast, small-team environment
- You use AI coding tools yourself, such as Claude Code, Codex, or Cursor, to move faster
- Based in Los Angeles, or ready to be
Compensation and Benefits
- Base salary of $150,000 to $185,000 depending on experience
- Founding-team equity
- Health insurance
